About WGES

Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES) provides affordable natural gas, electricity and green product options to more than 350,000 residential and business customers throughout Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. WGES is an affiliate of Washington Gas, a natural gas utility in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for over 150 years.

Our flexible terms, low pricing and green options help you to easily manage your energy costs while doing your part for a cleaner environment. As a pioneer in making green energy easily available to consumers, WGES has been offering wind power for almost a decade. In 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy named WGES the Green Power Supplier of the Year in the non-utility category.

About Energy Choice

If you live in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia or Washington, D.C., you have a choice when it comes to selecting who supplies electricity and/or natural gas to your home. When you choose Washington Gas Energy Services (WGES), you select the term and pricing option that are right for you. And, you will be able to choose green product options, such as wind power and carbon offsets, that are good for the environment. Utility companies do not have product flexibility so they cannot offer you these options.

After you enroll with WGES, there will be no service interruption and your utility company will continue delivering your electricity and/or natural gas to your home, responding to emergencies and reading your meter. For your convenience, WGES supply charges will be itemized on your utility bill, so you’ll only pay one bill.

Our Environmental Commitment

At WGES, we are deeply committed to offering smart energy solutions that benefit you and the environment. As a champion of the environment, we've been helping our customers achieve their environmental goals as well as instituting our own environmentally responsible business practices. These ongoing efforts resulted in the U.S. Department of Energy awarding us with the prestigious Green Power Supplier of the Year Award, in the non-utility category. As part of our environmental commitment to our customers, all WGES products for the home include a percentage of clean, emissions-free wind power, enabling our customers to reduce billions of pounds of carbon emissions.

WGES PA WindPower FAQs

1. What is wind power?

Wind power is electricity produced from wind instead of from conventional sources such as oil and coal. Wind is captured by large turbines located in wind farms throughout the country, so you do not need to install special equipment in your home or business. The electricity is then delivered to you by utility companies. Unlike most electricity sources, wind power is emissions-free and produces no harmful waste. By choosing to have your electricity sourced by wind power, you demonstrate that you are doing your part to create a cleaner environment.

2. Where does WGES PA WindPower come from?

WGES PA WindPower is local: It comes from Lookout Wind Farm located in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

3. Will I have to get new power lines or install special equipment to receive WGES PA WindPower?

No special equipment is needed. You will receive your electricity as you have always done from your utility company. And, your utility company will continue to provide emergency and other services.

4. Will I get a separate bill from WGES?

No, you will not get a separate bill. You will continue to receive your monthly electricity bill from your current utility company, with WGES charges itemized separately on the same bill.

5. Will WGES PA WindPower cause any service interruptions?

WGES PA WindPower won't cause interruptions in your electricity service. Your utility company will continue to maintain the distribution system and deliver the wind power to your home.

6. What is Green-e Energy?

Green-e Energy was established by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions to provide information and an objective standard for consumers to compare renewable energy options and to verify that consumers get what they pay for.
